The Clare School Governing Body
The Governing Body is responsible for the strategic leadership of the school and has a vital role to play in making sure that every child gets the best possible education. School Governors are volunteers, reflecting the diversity of the school, local community and business community. We work together as a Governing Body to collectively oversee the development of The Clare School. Representatives from all backgrounds and varying ages bring different perspectives to the decision-making process, working closely together for the benefit of the school and its pupils.

Instrument of Government
Governors are the strategic leaders of this vibrant, warm, welcoming, and unique school. We work closely and collaboratively with the headteacher to ensure every child and young person receives a bespoke education that fits their individual needs and prepares them for life post 19. Our Governors are justifiably proud to serve the school community and their families throughout their education journey. We regularly visit the school, take part in school activities and support children, young people, and their teachers in a voluntary role. This is hugely rewarding and affords us the opportunity to better understand our three key functions:
- Developing a vision and strategy for the school
- Ensuring fiscal probity
- Holding the headteacher to account to secure equality of opportunity for each child and young person thereby ensuring their individual needs are met and that they achieve through specialist bespoke pathways
Our Governing Board operates a circular model of governance whereby all governors meet to discuss our key areas of responsibility. This gives all governors an opportunity to seek clarity and gain greater understanding of all aspects of governance. The circular model also affords governors an opportunity to support and challenge as necessary the headteacher to ensure that the school continues to develop and evolve into the future from a position of strength at the highest level. We hold at least nine formal meetings per academic year.
